Acquired cardiac disease in children comprises a diverse range of disorders and is relatively rare in high-income countries, comprising 2.9% of all pediatric heart disease.[1] However, acquired cardiac disease remains a substantial issue in low- and middle-income countries, where it accounts for a majority of pediatric heart disease.[2] The spectrum of acquired heart disease in children primarily centers around infectious and inflammatory etiologies.
